One vote, one coral: an agreement is signed in Quintana Roo

A campaign commitment turns into a state restoration programme, with a goal of 260,000 corals for the Mesoamerican Reef.

Restore Coral put a simple proposition to the candidates in the Quintana Roo governor's race: for every vote, a coral. The campaign was called 1 Voto = 1 Coral, and it asked a political contest to leave something behind in the water.

On 27 November the agreement was signed between actors in the public sector. The commitment that came out of it was the planting of 260,000 corals and the restoration of the Mesoamerican Reef System.

The governor was specific in saying that the programme came out of our initiative. We share that gladly, knowing how much is still left to do.

What follows is the harder part: turning a signature into coral in the water, and handing responsibility to the institutions that can carry it.
